SOME FOOD FOR THOUGHT - READING AT RISK
A recent study by the National Endowment for the Arts
shows a distressing decline in the rate of literary
reading among all age groups, education levels,
race/ethnicities and both men and women. The study says,
"At the current rate of loss, literary reading as a
leisure activity will virtually disappear in half a
century." And there's more to it than that: 43% of
literary readers perform volunteer and charity work
compared to only 17% of non-literary readers. Read the
