Book Club Selection for Aug

The book club selection for August will be Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk.

When I first started reading this book, I thought of Kurt Vonnegut. Still do, although I have added a couple of other books this reminds me of, one being F*** YES!, by "rev" Wing F Fing (subtitled "a guide to the happy acceptance of everything"). It also has passages about the Creedish that remind me of John Christoper's classic "The White Mountains." It is an easy to read, cutting take on some elements of modern society.

Book Club Selection for July

The Eclectic Book Club selection for July will be "Stained Glass" by William F. Buckley. The second of WFB's mystery novels in the Blackford Oakes series, which traces the adventures of a CIA operative in the '50s. The first novel in the series is Saving the Queen. Buckley was employed by the CIA briefly in the '50s. Recommended among his many nonfiction works is Cancel your Own Goddamn Subscription, a collection of the notes and asides columns from his magazine, National Review.
